 UNDER 9s - FRIENDLY MATCH

Castle Utd 1 Clanfield 7

Clanfield’s scorers: Laurence Nelson (3), Declan Broderick (2), Lloyd Williams
(2)

Clanfield's man of the match: Samuel Day

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Laurence Nelson, Aaron Smith, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

The game started fairly evenly, with action at both ends. Clanfield missed several opportunities to take the lead while at the other end, it took some strong defensive work from Ashley Acton, Nicholas Clark and man-of-the-match Samuel Day to prevent Castle scoring.

Towards the end of the first half, Clanfield started to dominate and got their first goal when Lloyd Williams flicked on Laurence Nelson’s free kick. Right on the whistle the visitors scored their second, when Nelson’s corner was deflected in by the Castle goalkeeper.

In the second half Clanfield played up the slope and continued to dominate the game. Their third goal was scored following a long range shot from an acute angle by Nelson, who soon completed his hat trick with a header into an open goal, following Samuel Day’s pass.

Castle managed to pull a goal back half way through the second half but
still Clanfield persisted, increasing the score line when Lloyd Williams’ speculative shot caught the home goalkeeper off guard.

Declan Broderick scored the final two goals, making the final score 7-1 to Clanfield.

SUNDAY 7th APRIL 2002

 UNDER-9s - FRIENDLY MATCH

Jubilee 77 1 Clanfield 3

Clanfield's scorers: Laurence Nelson, Lloyd Williams, Samuel Day

Clanfield's man of the match: Lloyd Williams

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel
Day (Capt), Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

Clanfield continued their form with another confident win against Jubilee 77 despite a strong wind.  Clanfield dominated from the start and in the first few minutes man-of-the-match Lloyd Williams was denied a goal on several occasions by a series of  fine saves from the home goalkeeper.

After ten minutes Clanfield scored their first goal from a superb long-range shot by Laurence Nelson.  The visitors continued to dominate and scored another before the half time whistle, following a probing run and pass by Samuel Day to Lloyd Williams, who finished expertly.

The second half saw Clanfield battling against the wind, but they continued to look the most threatening team.  They increased the score when Samuel Day took a chance with a low shot following some determined midfield play by Declan Broderick.

Jubilee 77 managed to pull a goal back in the last five minutes, however the score remained 3-1 to Clanfield at full time.

Throughout the match Clanfield's desire and team spirit was evident, despite their indifferent league results.

SUNDAY 13th JANUARY 2002

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 GROUP 2

Milton United 2 Clanfield 1

Clanfield's scorer: Samuel Day

Clanfield's man of the match: Laurence Nelson

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

In an indifferent start, both teams found play difficult on a heavy pitch, but Milton United managed to open the scoring after five minutes.

Clanfield broke straight from the restart with Declan Broderick finishing off a fine run down the left hand side with a shot which forced a good save from the home goalkeeper.  The game continued to flow from end to end, with Clanfield's man-of-the-match Laurence Nelson making a good run and crossing from the bye line. This set up a shot from Lloyd Williams which was saved. Then Milton United forced a good save from Clanfield keeper Alec Allen.

During the first half Clanfield had several corners but the ball did not fall kindly and was cleared by the Milton defence.  As the first half drew to a close, the home side had a quick break and scored their second with
a good finish.

Clanfield dominated the second half from the restart and the few breaks that Milton did make were met well by substitute keeper William Andrews.  Jack Tunnicliffe and Samuel Day twice set up shots from Declan Broderick which were saved. Clanfield continued to exert pressure and a free kick from Samuel Day
was again well saved by the home goalkeeper.  Then against the run of play, Milton broke forcing a fine triple save from William Andrews.

Clanfield finally got a deserved goal when the ball was moved skilfully from Laurence Nelson to Jack Tunnicliffe then to Samuel Day, who scored with a fine finish.

Clanfield pressed for the deserved equaliser but Milton United hung on to win an entertaining match.

SUNDAY 6th JANUARY 2002

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 GROUP 2

Hurstwood Rangers 2 Clanfield 0

Clanfield's man of the match: Declan Broderick

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

This was an exciting and open game with action at both ends enjoyed by all the supporters.

Clanfield started brightly and almost opened the scoring in the first minute when man-of-the-match Declan Broderick started a passing move for Samuel Day to lay the ball off to Lloyd Williams, whose shot was just a fraction wide.

The game flowed from one end to the other with both teams enjoying numerous chances.  Clanfield had two consecutive attempts at goal by Laurence Nelson and Lloyd Williams but to no avail.  Hurstwood retaliated with a counter attack and Nicholas Clark produced a fine last-ditch tackle to prevent a score.

Again Clanfield pushed for a goal with Declan Broderick stretching at the far post to connect with a deep Samuel Day corner, and Laurence Nelson and Samuel Day had further shots saved.  Despite Clanfield's attacking play, Hurstwood scored just before half time.

Clanfield started the second half as keen as the first with Declan Broderick and Samuel Day having five shots saved between them within the first few minutes of the half.

The rest of the second half saw Clanfield produce more fine attacking play, but despite attempts from Laurence Nelson, Ashley Acton, Lloyd Williams and Samuel Day, the visitors could not equalise.

In the final minutes of the game Hurstwood scored another goal, giving them a 2-0 win. Although Clanfield had lost, the commitment and effort shown on the day, coupled with fine football, can only be a source of encouragement in their first season together.

SUNDAY 16th DECEMBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 CUP

Gosport Falcons 5 Clanfield 3

Clanfield's scorers:  Laurence Nelson, Lloyd Williams, Samuel Day

Clanfield's man of the match: William Andrews

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick,
Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd
Williams

Clanfield's Cup run came to an end on Sunday, unfortunately due to some controversial refereeing.

The game started with both teams well matched.  Clanfield conceded an early goal but responded quickly with an equaliser from Laurence Nelson.

Falcons scored their second but Clanfield responded with some fine midfield play from Laurence Nelson who set up a well-taken goal by  Lloyd Williams that brought Clanfield level.  Clanfield almost took a well-deserved lead when Samuel Day ended a penetrating run with a shot just wide.

Falcons third goal came following a controversial free kick awarded for a goal kick taking more than six seconds. This is no longer a rule and should not have been awarded.

Clanfield answered with two fine efforts from Samuel Day and Lloyd Williams which forced good saves.  Despite this Falcons scored another goal just before half time.

After the break Clanfield started brightly with Jack Tunnicliffe forcing a clearance off the line and then starting a move which saw Samuel Day score when a Laurence Nelson shot was parried by the keeper.

Clanfield now had a grip of the game and were superior in their play with Jack Tunnicliffe, Samuel Day and Ashley Acton displaying great resolve and determination and forcing further saves.

Clanfield's came closest to equalising when a long range shot by Samuel Day hit the post.

Falcons fifth goal came in the final ten minutes but Clanfield still pressed to score with further attempts on target from Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams and Ashley Acton.

Clanfield's man of the match award went to William Andrews who came out of goal to play for the injured Declan Broderick in a sterling, gutsy performance.

Overall Clanfield again displayed some great team spirit coupled with skilful football.

SUNDAY 9th DECEMBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 GROUP 2

Waterlooville Boys  5    Clanfield 2

Clanfield's man of the match: Ashley Acton

Clanfield's scorers:  Ashley Acton, Lloyd Williams

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

Despite losing this game Clanfield put in a strong performance and showed signs of regaining some form that had deserted them over the previous two matches.

Clanfield started brightly but unfortunately conceded an early goal from a speculative shot and despite attempts to recover from this, they conceded another.

Clanfield started to provide some fine attacking play through Samuel Day, Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe and Lloyd Williams but they could not narrow the goal difference and conceded yet another goal.

Just before half time Jack Tunnicliffe produced a fine shot at goal following a Samuel Day corner which the home goalkeeper could only parry away from goal to the feet of Ashley Acton who scored with a superb strike.

Early in the second half Waterlooville scored another goal but Clanfield showed determination and battled well to get back into the game with both Samuel Day and Lloyd Williams forcing saves.

Clanfield's second goal came from excellent midfield play when Laurence Nelson passed to Samuel Day and he managed to fend of a Waterlooville defender and lay the ball of to Lloyd Williams, who scored with a well timed strike.  Clanfield had yet another chance at goal when Laurence Nelson narrowly missed.

In spite of the fabulous defensive efforts from goalkeeper William Andrews and man of the match Ashley Acton, Waterlooville scored a fifth goal but Clanfield never gave up. The final move of the game saw Samuel Day force a good save from the home keeper from a free kick.

Despite the defeat the game was very enjoyable, contributed to by some fine refereeing.

SUNDAY 18th NOVEMBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 GROUP 2

Gosport Borough  5 Clanfield 1

Clanfield's scorer: Jordan Guttridge

Clanfield's man of the match: Nicholas Clark

Clanfield: Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Jordan Guttridge, Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

Gosport Borough took the lead within the first five minutes with a well-taken goal from a difficult angle. Clanfield responded with several attempts at goal - Samuel Day hitting a good goal kick, which freed Declan Broderick who didn't quite get his shot away. Then Lloyd Williams' header from a corner was just wide of the post.

Clanfield  counter-attacked well after some home pressure, with good interplay between Lloyd Williams and Declan Broderick allowing Jordan Guttridge a shot which went wide across the goal.

Borough made Clanfield work hard defensively - William Andrews had to makea brave save to prevent them from scoring, Jack Tunnicliffe made a last ditch tackle to thwart three home strikers and William Andrews made yet another fine save at the feet of an attacker.

Clanfield almost equalised just before the break when Samuel Day struck a long range shot which went just wide of the post.  The score was 1-0 to the home side at half time.

Gosport Borough started the second half very strongly and scored two quick goals and despite hard work and tireless running from Clanfield they then scored another.

Clanfield finally got their only goal with the best move of the match, with  passing from Laurence Nelson to Samuel Day who laid the ball off to Jordan Guttridge who scored with a well-taken shot, with the home goalkeeper helpless. Clanfield then almost got a second when Laurence Nelson had his shot cleared off the goal line.

Gosport scored their fifth goal in the closing minutes rounding off a fine performance.

SUNDAY 28th OCTOBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 GROUP 2

Clanfield 0 Milton United (Reds) 0

Clanfield's man of the match: Jack Tunnicliffe

Clanfield: Alexander Allen (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Jordan Guttridge, Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

This was a frustrating game for Clanfield as they had majority of the chances, but did not take any. Throughout the first half they pressed for a goal with some superb attacking play, but lacked the final finish.  Jordan Guttridge forced an early save and Declan Broderick shot slightly wide of the post.

Clanfield continued to pressurise the Milton United defence with several more attempts at goal, the best of which saw Laurence Nelson's shot soar over the bar. At the end of the first half, Milton United produced a fine counter attack and Clanfield were saved by some composed defensive work by man of the match Jack Tunnicliffe who cleared the ball off the line.

Clanfield started the second half with several attacks but still could not take the lead.  Samuel Day and Declan Broderick worked well in midfield to provide Laurence Nelson with two chances at goal, which again were near misses.

Several long-range attempts at goal from the home side forced good saves from the Milton United goalkeeper. In Clanfield's best chance Samuel Day's volleyacross the goal was unselfishly laid off by Jack Tunnicliffe to Declan Broderick, whose powerful first time shot just cleared the bar. Clanfield persisted with chances from Lloyd Williams and Jack Tunnicliffe but to no avail.

This was an enjoyable game that had no goals, but certainly animated the home supporters!

SUNDAY 21st OCTOBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 GROUP 2

Clanfield 3 Hurstwood Rangers 1

Clanfield's scorers: Jordan Guttridge, Laurence Nelson, Declan Broderick

Clanfield's man of the match: Alec Allen

Clanfield: Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Jordan Guttridge, Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

Clanfield secured their first league win of the season at home to Hurstwood Rangers in an exciting game that saw the home side dominate throughout. Clanfield applied early pressure resulting in a narrow miss by Lloyd Williams from a Samuel Day corner.

Hurstwood absorbed the pressure, mounting several quick breaks themselves that were foiled bravely by Clanfield's man of the match goalkeeper Alec Allen.

The half time score was 0-0, despite the attacking football played by both sides.

After the break, Clanfield capitalised on their pressure when the tireless running of Jordan Guttridge brought him a well-taken goal following a passing move involving Lloyd Williams and Declan Broderick.

Clanfield midfielders Samuel Day, Jordan Guttridge and Declan Broderick continued to apply pressure  which Hurstwood struggled to contain.  Following a defensive clearance Laurence Nelson scored with a superb long-range shot which soared into the roof of the Hurstwood goal.

Hurstwood responded quickly and a long-range shot produced a good goal which substitute goalkeeper William Andrews could do nothing about.

Clanfield then forced another corner from which Lloyd Williams shot was saved, but he then intercepted the keeper's clearance and passed to Declan Broderick, who executed a fine finish into the bottom right hand corner.

Just before the final whistle Clanfield almost got a fourth goal with three consecutive attempts at goal that hit the woodwork twice before the final shot was blocked.

Throughout the game Clanfield continued to play a passing game which, along with their fine team spirit and character, produced a well-deserved result.

SUNDAY 14th OCTOBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE CUP UNDER-9s

Clanfield 1 Petersfield 0

Clanfield’s scorer: Lloyd Williams

Clanfield's man of the match: Samuel Day

Clanfield secured their first win of the season over Petersfield in their opening League Cup fixture in an enthralling match that they dominated.

Clanfield pressed for an early goal with striker Laurence Nelson coming close several times.  Although Petersfield played well on the break, Clanfield still produced good opportunities, many of which came from man of the match Samuel Day’s corners.

Declan Broderick also made several good breaks, forcing saves from the Petersfield keeper and he also saved the day at the end of the first half with a well-timed defensive tackle tracking back from his previous attack.

Following several substitutions at the interval, Clanfield again started strongly, with Ashley Acton forcing a save off the line straight from the restart.  Clanfield continued to press for a goal, with Lloyd Williams forcing another save following a good passing move from Ashley Acton and Samuel Day.  Ashley Acton forced yet another save with a superb volley from another corner.

As the half was ending Petersfield broke but were prevented from scoring by an excellent save from goalkeeper Alec Allen.

The best move of the game resulted in Clanfield’s much-deserved goal when Jack Tunnicliffe used superb skill in delivering the ball to Lloyd Williams who turned and shot from distance lobbing the goalkeeper.

The team and supporters were jubilant at the final whistle as Clanfield secured a much-deserved victory.

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Jordan Guttridge, Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

SUNDAY 7th OCTOBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 DIVISION - GROUP 2

Jubilee Rovers 4  Clanfield 0

Clanfield's man of the match: Declan Broderick

Clanfield: Ashley Acton, Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Declan Broderick, Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (Capt), Jordan Guttridge, Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

Another disappointing result for Clanfield Under 9s, however, the final score owed much to some dubious decisions made by the referee.

The game started quite evenly matched with both teams attacking and defending well.  Jubilee Rovers' first goal followed an off-the-ball incident against defender Ashley Acton which distracted the rest of Clanfield's team leaving goalkeeper Alec Allen exposed. Clanfield responded well with several attacking moves, the best of which came from a half volley made by Samuel Day, which soared just over the bar. The first half ended 2-0 to the home side, the second goal coming from a corner which went in off the far post.

In the second half, in deteriorating weather conditions, Clanfield were forced to chase the game, putting together a superb passing move, which culminated with a shot by Jack Tunnicliffe forcing the Jubilee goalkeeper to parry the ball away for a corner. Following Jubilee's third goal Samuel Day forced a good save with an attempt from the restart and man of the match Declan Broderick hit the post trying to score from the corner, typical of Clanfield's luck on the day.

Taking into account the weather conditions and the inconsistent refereeing, the Clanfield players again displayed determination and excellent team spirit in what is proving to be a very strong league.

SUNDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER 9 DIVISION – GROUP 2

Clanfield 0   East Lodge Youth 1

Clanfield's man of the match: Ashley Acton

Clanfield: Alexander Allen (GK), William Andrews (GK), Ashley Acton,   Declan Broderick,  Nicholas Clark, Samuel Day (capt), Jordan Guttridge,  Laurence Nelson, Jack Tunnicliffe, Lloyd Williams

Clanfield started brightly dominating the first quarter of the game with some strong midfield play, but unfortunately they lacked the final touch.

East Lodge came back strongly but Clanfield’s new back formation defended diligently with Clanfield’s man of the match Ashley Acton leading the way.

Clanfield had their best opportunity to take the lead just before half time when Jordan Guttridge volleyed just over the bar from a long throw by Samuel Day.

East Lodge were quicker to get into the second half and scored the only goal of the match after breaking quickly from a Clanfield attack.

Clanfield replied with a fine passing move between Ashley Acton and Laurence Nelson leading to a shot from Lloyd Williams that the East Lodge goalkeeper saved well.

Clanfield showed determination to equalise but despite the tireless running of Samuel Day and Jordan Guttridge in midfield and long-range attempts by Laurence Nelson and Nicholas Clark their efforts proved fruitless.

Although the result was disappointing the team displayed great strength of character and teamwork.

SUNDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2001

SOUTH HANTS GLASS LEAGUE UNDER-9 DIVISION  - GROUP 2

Clanfield 1 Gosport Borough 3

Clanfield's scorer: Laurence Nelson

Clanfield's man of the match: Jordan Guttridge

Although pre season friendly matches had gone well for Clanfield Under 9s, the first league game did not follow that trend.

Clanfield started strongly from the kick off and controlled the first quarter of the game.  The first goal scored for Gosport followed a Clanfield corner and Gosport broke quickly to score the opening goal.   Clanfield pressed for the equaliser with both Nicholas Clark and Jack Tunnicliffe forcing two good saves, but with half time approaching, Gosport scored after reacting first to a parried save by goalkeeper William Andrews.

Clanfield almost closed the gap before the break when Lloyd Williams had a shot cleared off the line following a cross from Samuel Day.

Clanfield started the second half well when Lloyd Williams had another shot cleared and Jordan Guttridge volleyed just over the bar.

Further attacks from Clanfield’s Declan Broderick and Jordan Guttridge were thwarted by fine saves from the Gosport goalkeeper and against the run of play, Gosport broke early and scored their third.

The home side finally scored as a result of a probing run and pass from Samuel Day allowing substitute Laurence Nelson’s first touch of the game to end up in the net.

Both teams continued to provide excitement at either end and in particular some very brave goalkeeping from Clanfield substitute Alec Allen.

Clanfield’s Man of the Match – Jordan Guttridge for fine play in midfield.

SUNDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2001

FRIENDLY MATCH UNDER-9s

Clanfield 8 Horndean Hawks 0

Clanfield’s scorers: Lloyd Williams (4), Ashley Acton, Declan Broderick, Jordan Gutteridge

Clanfield’s man of the match: Lloyd Williams

Clanfield’s last friendly game before the start of the season was at home to local rivals Horndean and they continued their successful pre-season play.

An early goal by Ashley Acton set the tone for the rest of the match with Clanfield finishing the first half 3 goals up.

Strong midfield performances by Samuel Day, Declan Broderick and Jordan Guttridge allowed new striker Lloyd Williams to score 4 times during the game.  Declan Broderick and Jordan Guttridge scored the other goals following unselfish midfield play from substitutes Jack Tunnicliffe and Laurence Nelson.

Horndean persevered but could not get past William Andrews (sub Alec Allen) in Clanfield’s goal, and defender Nicholas Clark did well too.

Overall this was a very satisfactory performance by Clanfield’s newly-formed under 9’s team, who displayed some excellent passing moves.
